API & MCP
Document to Markdown for your code and your agents
AnythingMD converts PDFs, Office files, images and web pages into clean Markdown. Call it from your agent over MCP or from your own code with the REST API. Both use the same credits as the web app.
MCP server
Add one remote server to Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code or any MCP client. Your agent can then convert a local file or a public URL to Markdown in one call, and read long documents page by page.
Endpoint: https://mcp.anythingmd.com/mcp
Tools
create_upload— Gets a signed upload link for a local file, so the file never passes through the chat.convert_to_markdown— Converts a file or URL and returns the first page of Markdown.get_conversion— Checks a running job or reads the next page of a long document.
Claude Code (Run in a terminal)

REST API
Start a job, poll it, download the Markdown. Three requests.
1. Start a conversion
curl -X POST https://anythingmd.com/api/v1/jobs \ -H "Authorization: Bearer $ANYTHINGMD_API_KEY" \ -H "Content-Type: application/json" \ -d '{"source":{"type":"external","fileUrl":"https://example.com/report.pdf"}}'2. Poll until it finishes
curl https://anythingmd.com/api/v1/jobs/job_... \ -H "Authorization: Bearer $ANYTHINGMD_API_KEY"3. Download the Markdown
curl https://anythingmd.com/api/v1/jobs/job_.../artifacts \ -H "Authorization: Bearer $ANYTHINGMD_API_KEY"
Built for production use
- Quotes before you convert, so you know the cost in credits.
- Partial conversion when your balance runs short, then continue from the next page.
- Idempotency keys, so retries never charge twice.
- A receipt for every job, with pages and credits charged.
- Up to 1,000 pages per document.
Who can use it
Every account can create API keys. New accounts include 300 credits (20 pages). Until your workspace buys its first pack, keys are limited to 10 requests per minute; after that, 60.
The API and MCP charge the same credits per page as the website.
